Hulda, Lilli & The Roach by Maija Tammi

They are called Hulda & Lilli, and simply by giving them a name you feel closer to them. Hulda & Lilli are a chameleon and a locust in this story by the Finnish artist Maija Tammi. How can we feel closer to these non-human beings? In Maija's second work On The Third Day you get to know an intoxicated cockroach that wakes up in a dark cave. But how did it get there? And what is the growing thing between its legs? The roach has three days to figure it all out.

Art, science, nature, culture, stories, and research all come together in Maija's work.

Transmission by Touki Delphine

Far from the noise made by humans and technology rule, is an underground world full of life. A world where plants, organisms and fungi whisper undisturbed in their own language.

Touki Delphine is a group of artists from Amsterdam. They believe that humans can learn a lot from listening to this underground life. Their installation TRANSMISSION lets us experience the mysterious underground network in surprising ways. With buzzing brake lines, hissing snakes and glowing reflectors from the junkyard, they show you the most complex natural system on earth.

Short documentary The Underground Astronaut can also be seen at MU. Filmmaker Marleine van der Werf shows how biologist Toby Kiers maps plants and fungi from all over the world to understand how they work together.
