Hackers & Designers initiated a series of five hands-on workshops with Waag Society and Heerko van der Kooij.
Hackers & Designers aims to create an opportunity to collectively investigate the technologies in and around the self-driving car, discuss and investigate the ethical and philosophical questions that come with our reliance on technology in modern society all the while making our own self-driving car. The hands-on approach to learning therefore stays the focus in every workshop. Using the five ‘levels of autonomy’ (SAE Automated Vehicle Classification based on six different levels) of the self driving car as a means to work towards a better understanding of the practical aspects of conceptualizing and building a self-driving vehicle. The classification system is based in the amount of driver intervention and attentiveness required and will be used as a discursive and communication thread throughout the duration of the workshop programs towards a DIY self-driving vehicle.
On November 8 Hackers & Designers will be giving a workshop at Rijkswaterstaat which will be an interesting opportunity to talk about infrastructures with government employers.
