We kicked off the Summer Academy with a meet up 9:30 at NDSM studio 127 for an introduction. We had lunch and a tour at Mediamatic an alternative art space in Amsterdam exploring the possibilities and challenges that new technology offers art, design, nature and society. Followed by a guided tour at Waag Society an inspiring place in Amsterdam at the intersection of science, technology and the arts. Their work focuses on emergent technologies as instruments of social change, and is guided by the values of fairness, openness and inclusivity. We ended the day with a welcoming dinner at NDSM cooked by the amazing Tara Steemers who cooked us lunch for the whole Summer Academy!

-Meike Hardt is a designer and researcher based in Zurich. She is co-founder of m—d—buero, a graphic design and design research studio. In her research she looks at alternative economic cultures in response to the precarious conditions in the culture and design industries. The research is located at the intersections of design and feminist, critical and political theory. Furthermore, she is interested in hybrid forms of knowledge production, connecting posthumanistic perspectives with design(ing) practices. Meike Hardt used to work as an assistant at the MA Design department at the Bern University of the Arts from 2014 to 2017. Meike Hardt studied Illustration, Communication Design, Design Research and Design Critique at Civic City Institute, University of Arts in Geneva, University of Applied Science in Düsseldorf, Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts, and LCC London College of Communication.
