The re-imagining done in the workshop can be performed in the own preferred way of the participants. Depending on this a laptop, paper and pens, other creative material might be nice to bring. For the brainstorming session something to keep track of thoughts can be useful.

7 reimagining AI.jpg

The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is currently in a booming period, where novel technologies and application are designed quickly and finding their way to society. The drive for innovation is seen strongly in this field, as big high-tech companies seem to be in a race to become the leader in the field, where ethical considerations and implications are sometimes put on a sideline. Unfortunately, due to the high level of media attention and useage of platforms such as Chat-GTP and Dall-E, the general though of what is seen as "intelligence" is mainly established and defined by these same companies. Moreover, looking at the currently AI technology, we can see reflections of how current dominant worldviews have shaped the technical design of AI algortihms, their way of functioning and how they are used. In an introductionary lecture I will give some background on these various levels and then we start from scratch and re-imagine how AI algorithms can be shaped, what principles they can be based or inspired on and what the place of these technologies would be in a small community or broader hopepunk society. The lecture can serve as some inspiration for the re-imagining, but groups should feel free to follow their own interests and ideas.

The re-imagining done in the workshop can be performed in the own preferred way of the participants. Depending on this a laptop, paper and pens, other creative material might be nice to bring. For the brainstorming session something to keep track of thoughts can be useful.

The lecture will be in English and can accomodate a large group (30+). All backgrounds welcome.
