[[Bibliotecha]], [[Hackers & Designers]] & [[Read-in]] visited the central library in Utrecht to conduct a hands-on workshop on building an open source digital library.

[[Bibliotecha]] is a framework to facilitate the local distribution of digital publications within a small community, and it consists of André Castro, Roel Abbing, Yoana Buzova, Michaela Lakova - among many others. During the workshop at the Utrecht's Central Library
[[Roel Roscam Abbing]], [[Lucia Dossin]] and [[André Castro]] were building an open source digital library at the third floor of an actual/physical library. 


 
A 5 hour workshop continued with the [[Meetup: The Future library|meetup]] together with [[Read-in]], when a larger audience was invited to join the conversation.

Bibliotecha is een Wifi hotspot die is omgebouwd tot een digitale bibliotheek voor eBooks en andere digitale teksten. Kleine organisaties kunnen zo ter plekke snel een lokale digitale boekenkast aanbieden, zonder aan het internet gebonden te zijn. Wat voor communities kunnen rondom deze vorm ontstaan?
 
Tijdens de workshop leer je de Open Source technologie kennen waar Bibliotecha op gebouwd is, en leer je het naar eigen hand te zetten. Hoewel de Bibliotecha Linux draait, wordt je aan de hand meegenomen als je daar niet in thuis bent. Het belangrijskte is dat we samen een middag meer over het idee en de technologie leren. Technisch gevorderd of niet: kom langs.
 
Aan het eind van de workshop kan je deze virtuele boekenkast (optioneel) mee naar huis nemen.

You will need:
 
Your laptop - Linux of Mac OS (Windows possible but a bit more difficult).
1 Raspberry Pi (model 1 of 2)
1 USB-wifi adapter (we recommend this one: TP-Link TL-WN722N)
Electricity cable for your Raspberry Pi
€5 for an SD-card. (You will be provided a SD-kaart with Raspbian on it, a Linux installation)
Your can borrow a network cable from us
