Hackers & Designers were invited by MU Eindhoven to participate to their exhibition The New Newsroom during the special program of the Dutch Design Week.

During the Publishing Karaoke workshop we experimented with possibilities of co-producing a publication instantly – utilizing an interactive publishing tool. How does it work? You speak. It prints! With the help of speech to text technology the tool translates spoken word to text. Simultaneously an algorithm runs an automated image search, querying the spoken words and adding the images accordingly. The outcome: A printed publication!

You could bring your curiosity to automated editorial processes and DIY zine production!

The immediacy of the voice as the main content generator and the possibility of starting a dialogue with the technology serve as vehicle for participation – enabling conversations about unusual publishing methods and the (im)possibilities of automation processes.

You could just walk in anytime during the day and join the workshop!

About the Exhibition:

The New Newsroom was an exhibition where journalists, technologists, artists and designers investigate innovative formats, analyse the news and present their findings in stimulating visuals and installations. Experience the thin line between journalism and design in the buzzing newsroom set up within the exhibition and make the headlines yourself. Fake, factual, frivolous, fresh, far-reaching and profound: from 12 October to 11 November, 2018, MU explored the future of news.

Participating artists:

Maxime Benvenuto, Arthur Boer & Boris Smeenk, Jim Brady, Arvida Byström & Molly Soda, CLEVER°FRANKE, & Ai Applied, DROG, Forensic Architecture, Donghwan Kam, Rogier Klomp, Nicolas Maigret & Maria Roszkowska, NXS WORLD, Tjitske Mussche & Laura Stek (VPRO), Ruben Pater & Iris Lam, Reporter Ohne Grenzen, Telemagic B.V., Lilian Stolk, Coralie Vogelaar, VPRO & Submarine Channel, Alice Wong, Daan Wubben
