Op 11 januari 2024 opent het Wim Crouwel Instituut het jaar met een nieuwe 'It's All Graphic'. Dit keer onderzoeken we de hybride dubbelrol van grafisch ontwerpers en uitgevers. Vijf ontwerper-uitgevers delen hun bloeiende praktijk en gaan in gesprek over hun benadering van uitgeven, de verschillende rollen die ze vervullen, hun motivaties en de diversiteit aan resultaten die ze bereiken, van monumentaal tot efemeer, van esthetisch tot activistisch, van papieren boek tot hoorspel. Moderatoren Roosje Klap en Astrid Vorstermans leiden het gesprek en verkennen hoe deze verscheidenheid aan perspectieven en ervaringen een dynamische toekomst voor zowel ontwerpers als uitgevers kan bieden.

De voertaal is deze avond Nederlands.

In 2008, a forgotten corner of Trinity College Dublin was transformed into a living experiment called Science Gallery Dublin. Through a cutting-edge programme that ignites creativity and discovery where science and art collide, Science Gallery Dublin encourages young people to learn through their interests.

Since its opening, more than three million visitors to the nonprofit gallery have experienced 43 unique exhibitions, ranging from design and violence to light and love, and from contagion and biomimicry to the futures of the human species and play. Science Gallery Dublin develops an ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events fuelled by the expertise of scientists, researchers, students, artists, designers, inventors, creative thinkers and entrepreneurs. The focus is on providing programmes and experiences that allow visitors to participate and facilitate social connections, always providing an element of surprise.

Jasper van Loenen is an artist based in Rotterdam who mainly works with open source code and technology.

Jasper’s work deals with the relationship between us and the technology we use on a daily basis. His goal is to expose the hidden workings of these technologies and to offer users an insight into the processes and systems that lie below the surface. Through his work he tries to stimulate users to explore and learn about what those systems entail, not because of an aversion against technological progress, but because most of us don’t fully realize in what ways technology is being used by companies and governments, and what decisions and agendas have lead to their development.

By mastering and critiquing these technologies and using them for new artistic purposes, Jasper reveals the actual significance of these technologies. To amplify this search for transparency, most of his work is published under an open source license, meaning everyone is free to see how they work, to contribute, or to create their own derivatives.

Hackers & Designers is an initiative that brings two professions closer to each other in order to develop a common vocabulary and collective design concepts. Since the first H&D meet-ups in 2013, H&D has developed an extensive network of designers, artists, software developers, researchers, scientists, and theoreticians.
Traditionally Hackers & Designers activities consist of hands-on short workshops and deal with topics such as web technologies, Peer 2 Peer networks, crypto currencies, typography, conditional design, printmaking, and simple hardware constructions.

== Summer Academy ==

The 10 full-day immersive program of workshops, lectures, discussions and experimentation, along with a cozy atmosphere provides the perfect environment to investigate and learn through creating. Hackers & Designers is developing an extraordinary summer program in collaboration with internationally renowned tutors, studios, researchers, and individuals working in design, art, and technology.
